The National Council of Education Research and Training, New Delhi has been organizing a National Science Exhibition for children since 1971. The exhibition was renamed in 1988 as “Jawahar Lal Nehru National Science Exhibition for Children” to coincide with the beginning of the birth centenary celebrations of Jawahar Lal Nehru. All states and Union Territories participate in this national level Exhibition which is the culmination of the exhibition organized in the previous year by the states/union territories. |

| OBJECTIVES |
| |
The cardinal purpose of science exhibition is to develop the scientific attitude in the young generation of our country, to make them realise the social relevance of science to society and the responsibility of the scientists of tomorrow.
These objectives may be achieved by presenting the exhibition as an exciting experience of improvisation of kits and devices, toys and models and the lie, as well as providing solutions to many present and future socio-economic problems particularly those confronted in the rural areas, using available materials and local resources.
The exhibition will help children teachers to learn from each other experience, motivate them to design and develop something new and novel. It will also provide a medium for popularizing science and increasing the awareness of the public towards it. |

| The objectives may be briefly put as follows : |

Exposing and encouraging scientifi9c talent in children. |

Making children realized the relevance of science to society as also their responsibilities as scientists of tomorrow. |

Give a fillip to the habit of exploration encourages create thinking and promote manipulative skills among children through self-devised models or simple apparatus. |

Stimulating interest in science and inculcating scientific spirit in younger generation. |

Encouraging problem-solving approach and evelopment of appropriate technology, especially for rural areas and integrating scientific ideas related to daily life situations. |

Inculcating aesthetic sense and Team spirit among the participants. |

Popularizing science among the masses and creating an awareness regarding the role of science in socio-economic growth of the country and |

For the selection of exhibits for entries in the Jawahar Lal Nehru National Science Exhibition for Children, each state/union territory/Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan/Navodaya Vidyalya Samiti organize District and State Level Science Exhibition every year. In the state of Haryana SCERT Haryana, Gurgaon organizes the following three level Schools Science Exhibition. |

The Block/School level schools science exhibition are organized by the respective Su-Division Education Officers and the District Level Schools Science Exhibitions are organised by the respective District Education Officers under the kind guidance of SCERT. The District Science Specialist is responsible for the organization guidance and supervision of these exhibitions. Every year NCERT, New Delhi provides them in theme and sub-themes for these exhibitions and also suggests some guidelines for the teachers and students who would be participating in these exhibitions. |

Entries to the Exhibition are invited from Govt. Schools, Govt. Aided schools in the state. Wide publicity to given for inviting entries. Districts are asked to send entries for State Level Science Exhibition. Five exhibits from each sub-theme are selected for the display in the state level science exhibition. |

State Level Science Exhibition is organized by the SCERT Haryana, Gurgaon, State Level Science Exhibitions are sponsored by the NCERT. The funds given by the States are for meeting the expenditure of the exhibition mainly on the following items |

The assistance provided by the NCERT is only catalytic grant and utilized mainly to TA/DA to the participants and programme has to be implemented by the state with its own resources. The department of Science of SCERT is responsible for the organization of State level School Science Exhibition.The Science experts of this department also finalize scheme for the organization of Block /School/District level Science Exhibitions. They also visit these exhibitions and provide on the spot guidance. |
